High tech near-future mercenaries Ripple Creek Security must protect an obnoxious world government minister from the scores of enemies who want her dead—and killed in the worst possible way.
Alex Marlow and Ripple Creek Security's best personal security detail return to action. This time, they really don't like their principal, World Bureau Minister Joy Herman Highland—a highly placed bureaucrat with aspirations to elected office. But Highland's would-be assassins are up against the best security in the business—and Ripple Creek has no qualms about seeing their own explosions on galactic news. In fact, they kind of enjoy it.

When Diplomacy Fails Freehold Series Ripple Creek Book 3 eBook Michael Z Williamson
This is the third (and last?) novel in Williamson's Ripple Creek series. Ripple Creek is a military contractor that specializes in guarding sites and protecting people. Their services are expensive but worth every cent. In the three Ripple Creek novels, Alex Marlow's crew specializes in bodyguard work. Besides Marlow there are 5 other agents, each with a specialty (medical aid, explosives, etc.). In this novel they are tasked with protecting an obnoxious politician. The characters are well-drawn and each one is interesting. The book is hard to put down, and the action never stops. It kept me on the edge of my seat a lot of the time. I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 because, after reading the other 2 books ("Better to Beg Forgiveness" and "Do Unto Others") I found the formula was getting too predictable. I won't say more because I don't wish to spoil it for the reader. It's still a good read, but the author has more or less dried up the Ripple Creek well. His other books have been excellent, and I expect to buy others in the future.

When Diplomacy Fails Freehold Series Ripple Creek Book 3 eBook Michael Z Williamson Reviews
Fun read. Hoping to see more in the series, although it does follow the same formula as the previous 2 books.
The latest in the Ripple Creek collection is a definite winner. The off planet setting of a wannabe UN Sec General trying to be a political (maybe politically correct) in front of her supporters provides an interesting dynamic as the Ripple Creek operative do what it takes to keep her from harm. Of course our heroes (the operatives, not the politicians)are as far from politically correct as could be imagined. I refuse to give up any more of the plot than that, as you need to buy and read this book! Williamson needs the money for more guns!
The book is a great action packed military themed sci-fi novel. I have never been disappointed with any of Williamson's novels ( I own all of them, to date). You will not be disappointed either. If you enjoy science fiction with a military flair and enjoy good action and well written works, this book is for you.
This book, the third of a series, was yet another Great Read. Williamson has some fine stories out there, but this series is unique. And if Michael Z. Williamson happens to read this review- heh, heh; purple and pink digital camouflage. Well played.
Mr. Williamson did not disappoint with this excellent book. Well written, interesting and fully drawn characters in a world of technology which is logical and works consistently through the story. I've owned the hardcover for years and recently decided to add the version so I can read it more conveniently.
Not the best book in the series. One of the strengths of the Freehold universe is the different (and well developed and detailed) societal viewpoint interactions between those characters who espouse a more libertarian philosophy and those who follow some form of "state"-ism. None of that is explored in this book. None. Not even any of the various religious viewpoints were explored. It was fast paced, but at some point you kinda hope that the entire team gets wiped out, because of how stupidly the premise of the story is accepted by them. It reminded me of a Mission Impossible, which really should be titled Mission Difficult, but ultimately doable if we have enough improvised HME.
These Wiliamson novels about the Ripple Creek Executive Protection Team are among the most interesting I have ever read. They are filled with "inside baseball" kind of insight into the business and deal with all aspects of the executive protection equipment, tactics, psychology, logistics and techniques. My background is such that I really appreciated the level of detail and the thoroughness of how it is covered. Others might find them a little too heavy duty if they are looking for a quick read. If form is more important to you than substance, these are not the books for you. If you want the full monty, come along for the ride.
Book number three of the three book Freehold Series - Ripple Creek space opera series. This series is a sub-series of the Freehold space opera series which has eight books overall now. I read the well printed and bound MMPB.
Another story about a mercenary company providing bodyguard duty for a politician. Kind of more of the same. A good story, just not much standout.
